Do I have to be a homebrewer to join?
Our members range from individuals with an appreciation for homebrewing to people who are aiming to brew for a living. If you are anywhere in that range of experience, you'll fit right in.
Do I have to live in Arlington to join GRiST?
No, anyone of legal drinking age with an interest in home brewing is welcome to become a member.
Can I come to a meeting if I'm not a member?
Absolutely, prospective members are always welcome at meetings.
When and where do meetings take place?
Meetings take place the second Wednesday each month at the Arlington VFW Post 3150 (2116 19th St N Arlington, VA 22201) from 7-9 pm. Usually members arrive around 6:45pm and can purchase a craft beer or two to have before and during the meeting from the VFW.
Prospective members are welcome to attend a meeting before paying dues. Our "Upcoming Internal Competitions & Events" page (under "Inside GRiST") lists upcoming GRiST events in the next 60-90 days.
Parking is extremely limited -- park on N. Veitch St or walk 8 min from Courthouse Metro.
What happens at GRiST meetings?
We start our meetings with GRiST administrative items (20-30 min) -- discuss upcoming events, review our bank account, awards, periodically GRiSTers vote on issues relevant to club business, and general operational things GRiSTers want to discuss. We then have an educational component (30-60 min) followed by sharing/critiquing/discussing of homebrews brought by members (60-90 min).
What should I bring to a GRiST meeting?
You don't have to bring anything, just yourself! If you wish, you can bring a home brew to share with the group (we recommend bringing two 12 oz. bottles or a bomber to make sure there is enough to go around), but it is completely optional. Many members bring their own tasting glasses, but we have plastic cups on hand too.

How much are membership dues?
Membership dues are $20 per year, January to December. Couples/households can join for $30 per year.
How do I pay membership dues?

What do I get if I become a member?
Dues-paying GRiST Members are added to a members-only Google Group and are invited to the private Facebook Group. Members are also eligible to participate in internal club competitions, attend all monthly meetings, attend members-only events (e.g., brewery trips, Big Brew, Pig Roast, Holiday Party), serve as club officers, and vote on issues relating to club operations.

Are there any requirements I need to know about in order to become a member of GRiST?
All members must be of legal drinking age in the Commonwealth of Virginia (at least 21).
Am I expected to drink alcohol at GRiST events?
As part of our meetings, you may be offered a sample of a homebrewed beverage, which may contain alcohol. Any intake of alcohol at GRiST events is completely optional and at your discretion. GRiST strongly encourages all members and guests to drink responsibly at all times.
