What is the NoVA Classic Homebrew Competition?
The NoVA Classic Homebrew Competition is an American Homebrewers Association

(AHA) and Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) sanctioned homebrew

competition sponsored by the Grains Result in Something Tasty (GRiST)

Homebrew Club. GRiST has been active in Arlington, VA since 2012 with nearly

100 members. The NoVA Classic is our effort to further homebrewing as a hobby in

the DC metro area while raising money for a worthy cause.

The NoVA Classic stands out from other competitions because of the John Lyon Cup.

This unique award is open to veterans, active duty military personnel, and their

dependents. This feature spreads the homebrew hobby further among veterans,

recognizes their service, and celebrates our longtime partnership with the John Lyon Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 3150. Additionally, all proceeds from the NoVA classic are donated to the John Lyon VFW Post 3150.

With this excitement and the charitable nature of our competition, we are set for another successful competition which will create quality exposure for our corporate supporters.

Why is GRiST doing this?
The NoVA Classic will serve as a fundraiser to benefit John Lyon Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) Post 3150. GRiST and the John Lyon VFW Post have had a partnership since the Post began hosting GRiST meetings. The John Lyon has a long commitment to serving the Arlington veteran community via support of local Veteran Service Organizations along with supporting the local community.

GRiST believes the VFW serves an important role in our community and wants to further support their
efforts. Money raised through entry fees and sponsorships after we deduct our expenses will go to support the VFW’s charitable efforts.

When is the NoVA Homebrew Competition Classic?
The Competition will be held on November 4, 2023. An awards ceremony will be held later after the competition judging

Who is GRiST?
GRiST (Grains Result in Something Tasty) is a nonprofit Arlington Homebrew Club affiliated with the
American Homebrewers Association comprised of nearly 100 members across the Washington, D.C.
Metro Area. Established in 2012, the club focuses on the importance of education and improving the art of brewing in all its forms. The club differentiates itself from other homebrew clubs in the area by holding an education session at every monthly meeting. Members have all ranges of homebrew experience, from beginners to professional brewers.

What can I do to support the NoVA Classic Homebrew Competition?
GRiST is looking for prize donations for the competition. These prizes will be used to award winners and raffled to support staff and at the awards ceremony. Any donations from product samples to gift cards will help.

How will GRiST spread the word about sponsors?
Sponsors will be prominently listed on the club’s competition home page and announced proudly across all our social media accounts. Posts on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram average 100-300 impressions.

Of course, sponsors will be featured on any materials produced for the competition and prominently
displayed during the competition and award ceremony. Finally, a list of the sponsors will be provided to the competition’s judges, stewards and entrants.

Sponsors have the potential in reaching thousands of homebrewers throughout the Virginia,
Maryland and Washington DC area while helping veterans in the local community. The NoVA Classic
Homebrew Competition is an excellent use of your marketing funds supporting a worthy cause.
